Bear spray was used

Police believe break and enter was targeted

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat man is charged with two counts of break and enter, assault with a weapon and other charges after a midnight disturbance on Oct. 23.

According to police, the 42-year-old forced his way into a residence in the 300 block of Fourth Street NW and assaulted the lone female occupant. Police say bear spray was used and investigation revealed a firearm had also been brandished during the incident.

The man is charged with:

  • Break and enter/commit assault with a weapon
  • Break and enter/commit robbery
  • Six counts of failing to comply with release conditions
  • Breaching a firearms prohibition order
  • Two counts of possession of weapon dangerous to the public
  • Possess firearm knowing the possession was unlawful
