New guidelines issued

ACAC looking at options for sports in winter, spring

EDMONTON – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference is continuing to explore its options for sports in the winter 2021 semester.

Medicine Hat College is a member of the ACAC.

When the conference cancelled the fall sports schedule earlier this year, the intent was to tentatively reschedule those sports to spring and develop a shortened season for two-semester sports such as basketball, volleyball and hockey.

New guidelines regarding public health measures were introduced by Alberta Health Services this week, potentially opening up more opportunities for collegiate athletics.

Among the guidelines are that leagues can operate with multiple league cohorts (e.g., divisions), as long as the total number of individuals in each cohort does not exceed 150.

The ACAC says any decisions to proceed with post-secondary sport in 2021 will be reached with the input of the Senior Administration at each ACAC campus, and under the advice of AHS.
