Glass House Haunting turns greenhouse to haunted house

REDCLIFF, AB – The Redcliff Youth Centre is ready to give fright fans thrills and chills the likes of which they’ve never seen.

The Glass House Haunting is an 8,000-square-foot haunted house located in a greenhouse at 302 Second St. SW in Redcliff.

It opens Oct. 15 and will be open each evening until Halloween night.

Redcliff Youth Centre executive director Janae Ulrich says there are more than a dozen rooms and it will probably take people close to 20 minutes to walk through the entire thing.

“Every room features one or more animatronics that are life-sized or larger. Some of our really cool ones we do have like a Christmas themed room, we’ve got a junkyard themed room, the typical graveyard – bones, mummies, skeletons,” she said.

Ulrich adds to beware of the clowns that will be lurking around and scarers that will be featured throughout.

She says the haunted house is family-friendly, but that parents should consider bringing younger kids while there’s still daylight or going through it themselves first to check it out.

“Once the daylight is gone that’s kind of when the wow factor sets in and the scare factor really sets in as well because it’s kind of the lights and the sounds that really feature and highlight a lot of the animatronics and a lot of the themes,” she said.

Looking for a fundraiser and community event they could run under the COVID public health restrictions, the inspiration for the haunted house came from Courtney Legasse, one of the youth centre’s practicum students. Her dad owns RIGZ Roofing, a major part of putting on the haunted house.

“Courtney’s family – dad Kevin, mom Julie and sister Brittany – they do Halloween like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” said Ulrich. “All the animatronics that are hosted and featured throughout the haunted house belong to Kevin. He’s donated them for this event and really wanted to give back to the community in some way.”

Others wanted to give back as well, including Avenue Living, Sun City Ford, ROCC Lending Services and Spirit Halloween and community members have stopped by and offered their assistance during construction, says Ulrich.

Glass House Haunting will support the Redcliff Youth Centre and the Medicine Hat & District Food Bank. Admission is $5 per person, or $3 and a non-perishable food item for the food bank, or $15 for a family of four.

It’s open 6-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 6-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. until midnight on Oct. 31.
