Controlled burns aim to reduce fuel for grassfires

Fuel reduction burns at CFB Suffield starting this weekend

CFB SUFFIELD — Suffield fire services will be setting prescribed fires in the northern part of the base, starting tomorrow.

These burns are part of a plan to reduce grassy overgrowth in certain areas that could become a fuel source for grassfires.

The military says fire suppression assets will be on scene and a number of mitigation measures will be in place during the operation.

The decision to conduct or postpone any prescribed fired will be based on weather-related conditions.

Anyone near the base might see smoke from a distance as fire crews work on the burns.
