MEDICINE HAT, AB – Police say charges have been laid in connection to the theft of music equipment from popular Medicine Hat band Mahoney in August.

In a release, Medicine Hat Police Service says a 31-year-old male has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Police add almost all of the stolen equipment was returned to Mahoney’s Trent Roset and Ryan Massini. The value of the equipment stolen was estimated at $21,000.

On Aug. 21 the duo reported that several of their musical instruments and other equipment had been stolen from a parked van sometime between Aug. 16-21. Police say the investigation is ongoing and the identity of the person charged can’t be released at this time.

When the theft became public people were quick to support the duo and a gofundme was established. In a Facebook post, Mahoney says it intends to return money to donors.

“Hey guys! Good news – we got some of our gear back! Thanks so much to everyone who was on the lookout and who donated to help us. We don’t yet know if our stuff is in working order, but we probably won’t need to replace everything! If that’s the case, we will be in touch to figure out how to return some money to the people who supported us. We have been overwhelmed by the amazing support and we will do everything we can to give back.”
