MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat says its Downtown Development Incentive Program (DDIP) is fully subscribed for 2020.

“It is wonderful to see the uptake on this program even through these challenging times,” says Sandra Blyth, director of economic development, Invest Medicine Hat in a release. “This incentive was created to support our local businesses in the development and beautification of downtown buildings, and leave a vibrant and engaging streetscape our residents get to enjoy and be proud of.”

The program offers downtown property owners a series of incentives to assist them in redeveloping or initiating new developments including architectural and visual enhancements, commercial development, live-work residential development, multi-family development and environmental assessments.

A total of 283 grants have been approved since the inception of the program in 2011. Restaurants, coffee shops, retail stores, commercial and residential developments and professional services and more have used the program.

Kole Dalgleish, owner of Kolab and Kohab, says the DDIP enabled him to update the exterior on a number of my projects.

“There’s just something special about downtown and even the smallest updates to the buildings can make a big impact to the vibe and help attract youthful entrepreneurs with big ideas.”
