West ignored in speech, says MP

MP Motz says throne speech a ‘huge disappointment’

Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz says he will not be voting for the throne speech that was delivered in Ottawa today.

He calls the throne speech a “huge disappointment” and “a grab bag of platitudes.”

He adds it’s not what Canadians need or want and that it’s reckless and expensive, and that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau failed on multiple fronts.

“He ignored and mentions nothing about national unity. He ignored the plight of our energy sector he ignored agriculture,” Motz said from Ottawa, adding reversing Bill C-69 would have been a positive move. “There’s nothing for the priorities of our communities. He’s ignored people in business who are suffering now and there’s no support for provinces.”

He said the west was ignored in the speech and he will “absolutely” vote against it in the House of Commons.

“This does not support Western Canada, this does not support the needs of Western Canada, it does not support the needs of Canadians.”

Motz called it a repeat of undelivered promises over the last five years and said the throne speech was devoid of any plans.

“That’s the sad reality that we face today.”

One step in the right direction, said Motz, was that Indigenous police forces were acknowledged as needing to be classified as an essential service. It’s something he’s been asking for since the days when Ralph Goodale was public safety minister.
