Honouring those lives lost to overdose
MEDICINE HAT, AB – A cross with 48 purple hearts attracted a lot of attention at the Medicine Hat Drug Coalition’s International Overdose Awareness Day setup downtown.
The hearts represent the number of lives lost to overdose in Medicine Hat since 2016 when statistics started being kept.
“The day is about overdose awareness and so we’re honouring people we’ve lost in Medicine Hat due to overdose, we’re also raising awareness of the issue within our community and we also want to reduce the stigma related to drug abuse and addiction,” says Ann Pudwell, a member of the Medicine Hat Drug Coalition and a health promotion facilitator with Alberta Health Services.
