Monsignor McCoy High School announces re-entry plan

Aug 25, 2020 | 10:45 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – City schools have begun to reveal their re-entry plans as classes are set to resume on Monday.

The plan for Monsignor McCoy High School includes a change to students’ schedules in order to reduce movement between classes and offer more time for sanitization of the classrooms.

Each day will have two instructional periods – one from 8:15 -11 a.m. and the other from 11:55 a.m.-2:40 p.m. – which are 165 minutes long. Lunch will be from 11-11:50 a.m.

Students will still have five classes during the five-month semester, and there will be at least one day between classes for each period.

“It is important to note that our surroundings are changing, and we all have a responsibility to ensure the safety of ourselves, and others,” says principal Paul Gauche. “To this end, Monsignor McCoy High School will approach all of the safety measures from the perspective of helping students learn new behaviours and strategies to stay healthy in a world where COVID-19 continues to be a threat.”

Other measures include:

  • No assigned lockers. Students must bring their needed materials in a backpack each day
  • Staggered entry into the school by students
  • Restriction of non-essential visitors, meetings must be scheduled in advance, self-screening by visitors and record-keeping
