Medicine Hat Police Service warns against organized fighting in the city

MEDICINE HAT, AB- Reports of organized fighting at Strathcona Park has prompted a warning from the Medicine Hat Police Service.

Insp. Brent Secondiak says police will be conducting enhanced patrols at the park, following reports of the activity taking place in the evening hours.

” We just want the public to know that it is not okay, it is illegal, there are activities around that, that could really be harmful, and it doesn’t allow people to enjoy the parks. Everyone should have the opportunity to equally to enjoy the park,” Secondiak said.

Those caught organizing or participating in illegal fighting could net a number of criminal code and bylaw charges. They could also face “significant financial repercussions.”

Secondiak says, organized fights can be distinguished from other fights, typically though the number of onlookers.

“It can be quite dangerous and our job is to keep the public safe and that includes fighting,” Secondiak said.

Members of the public are urged to contact the police if they witness or hear of organized fighting in the city.
