Medicine Hat tip leads to Calgary arrests, drug and firearms seizures

Aug 20, 2020 | 3:03 PM

A tip from the Medicine Hat unit of ALERT helped lead to the arrest of a Calgary couple in early August.

According to a news release out this week from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, the arrests were made by ALERT Calgary’s organized crime and gang team.

“In this instance, ALERT was able to make a quick arrest by leveraging information provided by our team in Medicine Hat,” said Acting Insp. Kristie Verheul, ALERT Calgary. “The benefit of ALERT is having teams situated across the province, who are intelligence-led and can provide a dedicated approach to organized crime threats.”

Homes were searched in Calgary’s Dover and Beltline neighbourhoods.

ALERT seized $14,000 worth of drugs and cash, including:

  • three firearms;
  • 17 grams of fentanyl powder;
  • 18 grams of methamphetamine;
  • 15 grams of cocaine;
  • 312 grams of a cocaine buffing agent; and
  • $2,635 cash.

Ross Darr, 28, is charged with 21 offences related to drugs and firearms.

Michelle McDonnell, 33, is charged with seven gun-related offences.
