Redcliff teen now recovering in Medicine Hat Hospital following accident at Lundbreck Falls

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Redcliff teenager is now recovering in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital after a stay in Calgary Hospital following a horrific accident at Lundbreck Falls in late July.

Her mom Brittany Streiful says Alexis is healing but she is still limited.

And says she is not able to put weight on her legs for eight more weeks so she will be in a wheelchair for the next while. Her mouth is also wired shut.

A GoFundMe post from last month reads, “She went to jump – thought better of it and tried to turn around – but couldn’t stop herself from the forward momentum. And experienced a most tragic fall. After hitting the rocks on the way down, nearly 40’ below, she somehow managed to stay afloat until her friend pulled her to shore at the bottom of the cliff.”

Her mom says Alexis is looking forward to coming home.

But they have to make their home more wheelchair accessible.

She says Alexis knows she will overcome this.

“She’s so positive, she’s so good. She has her off days or down days of course because being stuck in the hospital for a month now is draining when you’re 17 and during COVID nobody can go up and visit her. So we take her down to see her friends and stuff like that and that really lifts up her day. But overall she’s just so strong and handling it all really well.”

The Streiful family thanks the community for the overwhelming amount of support while Alexis heals.

“She cries when she sees how supportive everyone is,” her mom added.

Meantime, a live concert in Medicine Hat will support Alexis’ healing.

Brett Kissel will make a stop in the city in a drive-in fashion on September 5^th at the Canalta Centre parking lot. He’ll play shows at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

“She says she is going to the concert and is determined to be there,” Streiful said.

The concert is a fundraiser to support two locals -Alexis and Ryan.

Ryan passed away suddenly in July, leaving behind a wife and two children.

Tickets for the concerts go on sale Thursday morning (Aug. 20) at 10 am on tixx.ca.

“Everybody needs something like this right now. It brings people together in a safe way during this time,” Streiful added.
