359 new cases in Alberta

One new COVID-19 case in Medicine Hat, four total active cases

Medicine Hat has four active cases of COVID-19, with one new case reported in Monday’s online update. The city has 68 total cases – four active, 62 recovered and there have been two deaths.

Alberta announced 359 new cases on Monday, its first update since last week. The province counted 177 new cases on Aug. 14, 86 on Aug. 15 and 96 on Aug. 16 and now has a total of 12,412 cases. Of those, 11,056 are recovered, an increase of 260 since Friday, and 1,132 are active, an increase of 96 from Friday.

A note added to the online chart clarifies that the “number of cases reported on August 14 includes 74 cases from before August 14 that were reconciled in the database on this day. These 74 cases are not attributed to new cases on this date. On August 14 there were 103 new cases.”

There are 45 Albertans currently in hospital due to COVID-19, 10 of which are in ICU. There have been a total of 224 deaths, up three from Friday’s update.

The province conducted 28,240 tests in the past 72 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw is to provide an in-person update on Tuesday.

The South Zone has a total of 1,725 cases —1,661 recovered, an increase of 17, and 42 active, a decrease of three.

There are four people in the zone in hospital, one of which is in ICU, and there have been 22 deaths.

Cypress County has totalled 31 cases – all recovered.

The County of Forty Mile has 20 total cases, six active cases and 14 recovered.

The MD of Taber has 39 total cases — two active, 36 recovered and one death.

Special Areas No. 2 has 15 total cases, all of which are recovered.

Brooks has 1,135 total cases —1,122 are recovered and four active. Brooks has recorded nine deaths. There were 10 new cases in Brooks over the weekend. The County of Newell has a total of 30 cases — four active, 25 recovered and one death.

The County of Warner has 56 total cases. There are now 53 recovered cases, two active cases and one death in the county.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 144 cases. Of those, eight are listed as active and 134 recovered and there have been two deaths there. Lethbridge County has 30 cases, three active cases and 27 recovered.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 16, 2020.”

Saskatchewan reported one new case of COVID-19 on Monday, which was in the South Zone.

Over the weekend, Saskatchewan announced 40 new cases, 16 of which were in the South Zone.

Saskatchewan has a total of 1,581 cases, 172 considered active. There are 1,387 recovered cases and there have been 22 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
