Early morning fire could be suspicious in nature

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat firefighters were called out early Monday morning to an apartment fire on 98 Sprague Way that police are investigating as an arson.

Firefighters say residents self-evacuated around 3:30 a.m.

According to the Medicine Hat Police Service, there were no injuries due to the fire being quickly extinguished.

The MHPS Major Crimes Section is working to identify the person responsible.

The fire was in the stairwell of the apartment complex and property damage is estimated to be under $5,000.

Firefighters used ventilation techniques to remove the smoke from the building.
