Vigil in Medicine Hat tonight for slain Red Deer doctor

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Red Deer is still reeling over the fatal attack of Dr. Walter Reynolds on Monday.

Vigils to honour him are planned for Friday evening.

The Alberta Medical Association, which is organizing the vigils in Red Deer and Edmonton, is asking doctors who attend to wear white lab coats or white clothing.

There will also be a vigil here in Medicine Hat, which is organized by and intended for physicians only.

It will take place at 7 p.m. at the hospital near the old entrance.

RCMP received a 911 call Monday reporting an assault in progress at the Village Mall Walk-in Clinic just after 11 a.m. Mounties arrived within minutes.

Reynolds was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deng Mabiour of Red Deer is charged with first-degree murder.
