City paving in three spots next week

Aug 14, 2020 | 1:31 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Paving operations will begin at three locations in the city next week.

A news release from the City of Medicine Hat says the work will start on 20th Street NE between 11th Avenue and 16th Street on Aug. 17.

On Aug. 18 and 19, paving will be done on Gershaw Drive SW between Fourth Street and Seventh Street. On Aug. 20 the work will move to Seventh Street SW between Gershaw Drive and Fourth Avenue.

Prep work has been ongoing at the locations in recent days.

The city says the paving operations will involve the placement of the top lift of the asphalt surface and asks the public to obey all construction and temporary speed signs during the work period, which is dependent on the weather.

Irrigation work

Ongoing work to improve irrigation rehabilitation operations in Gilwell Park is taking place this month.

The city says the irrigation system requires a full rehabilitation to maintain the vegetation and green park space. The project also includes updating area landscaping with native and hardy grasses, which will help with cost-savings and watering.

To accommodate the ongoing construction, the park will be closed to the public. It is expected that the park amenities will reopen in October.

Nearby Leinweber Park will remain open and the disc golf is available during construction.

The newly landscaped areas will remain closed to the public until 2021 while the grasses establish.
