MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Public School Division will be opening up registration for its new virtual school starting Friday.

Dubbed the Hub, the school will have its own staff for the program launched in response to COVID-19 and concerns of parents of their children’s safety during the pandemic.

Superintendent Mark Davidson said dedicated administrators and teachers will oversee the full-school day online programming.

“Families who keep their children at home because of concerns about COVID are assured they will get a full elementary school program from teachers whose focus is dedicated to online programming,” said Davidson.

That programming will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and be available for those in the early learning program to Grade 9.

Davidson says the school division is expecting at least 330 students based on replies from its survey conducted earlier this year, though, the program could be adapted for more students if required by either demand or necessity.

Registration opens Friday and will remain open until Aug. 24.
