Parking fees at hospital to return soon

Aug 13, 2020 | 12:32 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Alberta Health Services is reinstating parking fees for the public at its facilities next month.

Facilities in the South Zone affected are Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

PHS says public parking fees will be the same as they were prior to the pause and that coins and cash will still be accepted at AHS parking meters and parking offices.

In a release, AHS says “As part of routine Infection Prevention and Control measures, AHS Parking Services has already enhanced cleaning, and will continue to regularly clean all parking payment machines. Signs encouraging social distancing will be in place in areas where this additional guidance will help further reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

People visiting the hospital are encouraged to use the AHS parking app, which can be downloaded for free to any iPhone or android device.

Parking fees for employees will be reinstated on Aug. 31.

“Staff and public are reminded to please continue to park in designated parking areas. This helps us ensure more efficient traffic flow and appropriate access to AHS facilities,” the release reads. “Parking impacts accessibility of care for patients. Patient and public parking locations are intended to enhance accessibility, and we thank both public and staff for continuing to help us ensure our parking supports patient needs.”
