There is no change in the number or condition of COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat.

The city remains at 64 total cases — four active, 59 recovered and one death.

Alberta counted 56 new cases today, bringing the provincial total to 11,296. Of those, 1,107 are active, a decrease of 39, and 9,984 are recovered, an increase of 93.

“Today’s case numbers continue a week-long trend of fewer than 100 new cases per day,” said Dr. Deena Hinshaw. “I am cautiously optimistic that Albertans are taking health measures more seriously, including distancing, handwashing and masking. Of course, we are not out of the woods yet. The spread of the virus over the coming weeks will depend on the choices we make this weekend and in the days and weeks ahead.”

She added that although 20- to 29-year-olds remain the largest driver of growth, it’s encouraging to see the rate of growth has slowed.

The province’s chief medical officer of health also presented what she called a hard truth.

“We will likely still be fighting COVID-19 in 2021. So we do need to build good daily habits now,” she said.

Hinshaw began her update praising those who have been working on the frontline during the pandemic.

“Every one of the almost 10,000 recovered Albertans is your success story,” she said.

Hinshaw also thanked all other health-care professionals and those working on the frontlines of supporting society such as truck drivers, grocery store workers and more.

There are 76 Albertans currently in hospital due to COVID-19, 19 of which are in ICU. There are a total of 205 deaths, an increase of two.

The province conducted 7,987 tests on Wednesday. In total, 607,363 Albertans have been tested, nearly one in seven said Hinshaw.

There are 11 people in the zone in hospital, five of which are in ICU, and there have been 17 deaths.
