Province looking for its next Artist in Residence

Jul 31, 2020 | 11:59 AM

Local artists can now apply to be Alberta’s Artist in Residence, who will act as an ambassador for arts and culture in the province and receive a $50,000 grant to develop a project designed to promote the arts in Alberta and engage in community outreach.

The program will coincide with Month of the Artist in September, meant to showcase Alberta-based talent while raising awareness of the value and contributions of artists in the province.

The residency will last for one year. The program is open to artists of any discipline including, but not limited to, dance, film, literary, music, theatre or visual arts.

Leela Sharon Aheer, minister of culture, multiculturalism and status of women, says the province will work with Alberta’s creative minds to promote the arts and engage communities.

“This year, we have embraced the power of art to keep us entertained, inspired and connected,” she said. “Alberta’s government is committed to ensuring artists can continue to create, celebrate and share our province’s talent.”

The Artist in Residence will be announced in September.
