Eastern Irrigation District to get $100K for safety inspections

COUNTY OF NEWELL, AB – Alberta’s minister of agriculture stopped in Brooks on Friday to announced funding for the Eastern Irrigation District.

Devin Dreeshen says the $100,000 in funding will go to the district to allow for safety inspections of dams in the region and potential impacts of failures to downstream residents and businesses.

Brooks-Medicine Hat MLA Michaela Glasgo and EID chair Jason Hale were on hand and welcomed the announcement.

The minister is currently on a tour of irrigation districts in the region, stopping in Strathmore, Brooks and Vauxhall to meet with local irrigators.
