MEDICINE HAT, AB – With Medicine Hat Police Chief Andy McGrogan hanging up his hat following a four-decade-long run with the MHPS, the city’s police commission has begun its search for his replacement.

Police commission chair Sandy Redden says the job has been posted, a recruitment firm hired as the city launches its search for the city’s new chief.

But Redden says McGrogan’s service as chief won’t be forgotten, adding that many of the attributes he exemplified in regards to community building are traits the commission will be looking for in his replacement.

“We need someone who – and Chief McGrogan has been a very good example – someone who is really in touch with our community,” said Redden. “And that’s why the service has been as effective as it has for many years.”

McGrogan became chief in 2008 after the untimely death of Chief Gord Earl.

A new chief is expected to be in place by Jan. 1, 2021.
