MEDICINE HAT, AB – Next week, riders will be able to use the Highway3Connector.

The Highway3Connector is a Medicine Hat/Lethbridge weekday shuttle bus that connects eight communities in the region.

It will resume service starting Tuesday, August 4 after being suspended on June 1 due to COVID-19.

“When making the decision as to whether service would resume this year, the health and safety of our passengers and staff remained our top priority; we are fortunate to be able to draw upon the experience of successfully re-launching our On-It Banff/Canmore service in June and are incorporating many of the same protocols for Highway3Connector’s highly anticipated return to the road,” said On-It Regional Transit’s Director Craig Loose, in a release.

With the resumption of service on August 4, the Highway3Connector will implement several health measures to ensure the safety of riders. A few notable changes are:

  • Mandatory face masks for all passengers
  • Physical distancing guidelines will be in place during the entire rider experience
  • Thorough sanitation of buses and all high contact areas
  • Hand sanitizer made available on all buses for passenger and staff use

Changes have also been made “to enhance the passenger experience”:

Scheduling and stop changes – in order to provide passengers with a more convenient ride, Highway3Connector now stops at:

  • Medicine Hat Regional Hospital
  • Medicine Hat Mall
  • Pure Casino (Lethbridge)
  • Park Place Mall (Lethbridge)
  • Chinook Regional Hospital (Lethbridge)

Walk-on riders – Highway3Connector is now accepting walk-on riders on a limited basis.

Passengers looking to use the walk-on service must call 1-877-367-4993 to confirm walk-on availability ahead of their desired pickup time.

The Highway3Connector provides access to regional transportation for more than 165,000 people living in communities along Highway 3.

The service is funded by the provincial government through the Rural Transportation Pilot Project. The service is operated by On-It Regional Transit, a division of SOUTHLAND Transportation.
