MEDICINE HAT — Supper was late and residents were without air conditioning for a short time in a part of southeast Medicine Hat late yesterday afternoon.

The city of Medicine Hat says 871 customers along Strachan Road S.E. and into the Somerset neighborhood were impacted by a power outage.

Most of the homes had service restored by 6 pm, but there were still issues with some businesses and traffic lights not functioning for a while afterward.

The city says the power outage was the result of a blown fuse in one of the switch gears in that area (near Home Depot).

Electrical workers installed an upsized fuse and power was restored.

Crews have made adjustments to the switch gear and expect there to be no further issues.
