MEDICINE HAT, AB – Alberta Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Friesen Livestock Limited here in Medicine Hat.

Five people have tested positive.

Information available Monday morning indicated one case has recovered and there are four active cases.

A post on the Friesen Livestock Facebook page just before 1 p.m on Monday states there are “currently no active positive remaining” and that “All affected staff have recovered and are in good health.”

Dennis Friesen, president of Friesen Livestock Nutrition told CHAT News Today, the members who tested positive were all administrative staff, and the outbreak involved no one from production.

The office in Medicine Hat has been closed for two weeks, and will remain closed to foot traffic for at least another week.

Prior to the outbreak, all Biosecurity and outbreak preventative measures were put in place, including social distancing. Friesen said all staff in production are required to wear PPE on the job, and have been required to do so before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
