Grants will improve financial literacy for Alberta students

A partnership between Alberta Education, Enriched Academy and Junior Achievement chapters in Alberta will improve the financial literacy of students and thereby better prepare them for work and life.

The programs will be targeted at students in Grades 3-12.

A $200,000 grant to Junior Achievement will allow it to give 4,500 students hands-on, experiential financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship education. In total, more than 49,000 students will be served by Junior Achievement in the 2020-21 school year.

“This funding will support JA’s continued efforts to expand its reach so more students in rural and Indigenous communities can develop skills that are vital to thrive in our modern global economy,” said Melissa From, CEO, Junior Achievement Southern Alberta.

Enriched Academy will receive a $175,000 grant, with which it will pilot an online financial education program for students in Grades 10-12. More than 4,000 students will be included in the project, which will take place during the upcoming school year.
