City gets new trash compactor at landfill

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you make frequent trips to the landfill you may have noticed a new piece of machinery on site.
The city recently acquired a new Tana trash compactor that will help to maximize existing space and lead to a longer lifespan for the landfill.
“The compactor is the single most important piece of equipment in a landfill site,” said Jamie Garland, manager of Solid Waste at the City of Medicine Hat. “Since it can take up to one year from order to delivery on heavy machinery like this, it was a highly anticipated and exciting day when the compactor arrived.”
The new compactor enables more waste to be packed in one pass than in previous models, increasing efficiency and reducing fuel use. Officials also expect compaction to increase by at least 30 per cent, saving on airspace.
