Jul 8, 2020 | 4:19 PM

BROOKS, AB – A Brooks mother and her family captured video of a funnel cloud right next to them on Highway 1 east of Calgary yesterday.

Darsie Smith was with her husband and daughter shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday when they saw an ominous formation in the sky – northwest of Brooks.

At the same time an emergency alert for parts of the County of Newell – which surrounds Brooks – was issued due to the possibility of tornadoes forming.

Environment Canada has confirmed a brief tornado did touch down in the area at around 8:05 p.m.

It was classified as an “F0” with estimated winds of 105 to 137 kilometres an hour.

There have been no reports of any damage.

This was the fourth confirmed tornado in Alberta already this season.
