MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat residents will be able to attend city council meetings in person again starting next week.

Council has its regular council meeting on Monday and COVID-19 practices will be in place.

City Clerk Angela Cruickshank says they’re excited to invite the public and media back.

Meetings will be held in the Esplanade Studio Theatre while renovations are being done in council chambers.

Heating and ventilation replacement are being done in the roof.

It’s scheduled to be done in the fall and meetings will be held at the Esplanade until then.

The renovations were scheduled prior to COVID-19.

Cruickshank says the public can come through the Esplanade’s main doors

There is a sanitizing station in place and residents will be asked to fill out a contact tracing form.

With physical distancing, the Esplanade can seat up to 50 people.

“We have seating in bleacher style to allow for social distancing. Because of social distancing seating is limited inside. We do have an overflow area in the lobby as well which will be showing the meeting on the TV’s and all over the P.A system. And for those who cannot make the meeting we also live-stream on our Youtube channel.”

The public can still listen to the meeting over the phone.

On Monday, July 6 Cruickshank says council will consider 3rd reading of the ride-share bylaw.

It starts at 6:30 p.m.
