Local farmers pleased with the rainfall early this week

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It was a rainy start to the week, but local farmers are pleased with the moisture.

Nicole Neubauer with Neubauer Farms says the rain in the region was much appreciated.

And that amount will go a long way to build the crop.

She says with the drink, the root zone is replenished to start filling the flowering heads.

And adds that the future looks optimistic for what crop production can look like this year.

When referencing their farm, she says the crop is as good as it’s looked in quite some time.

“Granted, the rain can vary greatly from place to place but our farms are 45 minutes apart and we had comparable measures in the rain gauge between here and north of Irvine so the rains are timely, the rains are great and puts a smile on my face that’s for sure.”

Meantime, she says irrigated canola looks great and heading into full flower.

And she’s pleased with their lentils on dryland which look lush and healthy.

As for concerns, they will be keeping an eye on potential fungal development.
