The Important Role Day Homes Will Play in Our Pandemic Recovery
As our province begins to reopen after the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic many families are having to navigate they’re new normal. With schools being closed and access to subsidized school aged program spaces being limited, parents of older children are unsure what to do as they return to work. Parents of younger preschool aged children could well be experiencing a struggle as day care centres open with limited capacities. There are multiple reasons why child care, and specifically approved day homes, will play a key role in our community’s economic recovery.
Day homes remained open through the closures due to the smaller number of children in care with a single dedicated provider. At Monkey Business, our providers stepped up their cleaning procedures, made changes to the set ups of their homes and altered their daily routines. Their actions have kept children and families safe, and we are so proud of how they have risen to the challenges.
We all know that countless families experienced layoffs and wage cuts through this process. As they begin to return to work, they may find themselves in a different financial situation as compared to where they were prior. Approved day homes are generally the most affordable regulated care option for families. They will get the best “bang for their buck” in an approved day home where providers are supported and monitored, offer healthy meals, and plan activities to enhance child development.
Day homes also offer the most flexible care options. We can accommodate children from birth through 12 years of aged can also work with families who have non-typical work schedules like weekends, evenings, and overnight hours. Siblings can be placed in the same home which is a valuable asset at a time when many of us are trying to limit the amount of contact our family has with others.
