MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat is one of the largest cities in the province with no active cases of COVID-19.

This comes as the pandemic approaches its 100th day in Alberta.

Alberta Health says all 36 cases in the city have recovered.

No deaths in Medicine Hat have been reported.

Chat News spoke with residents on how they are feeling about the current numbers on Friday.

And some say they want to see fewer restrictions.

“We have no active cases so I’m perfectly fine with everything that’s going on right now. I’d like to see the city open up, like City Hall, that’s one of my main things but other than that I’m perfectly fine.”

“I think it’s really great news. I just hope that people are still diligent about things because we don’t think that we’re out of the clear yet, but I think as long as people are responsible then it’s good news.”

Another resident told Chat News, “I guess it’s alright, but we should loosen up a little bit so people have something to do for the summer. This way I don’t know what people are going to do, they’re going to go stir crazy.”

“If things go crazy down in the states you’ll never know how long it’s going to be until it gets up here, you never know.”

Meantime in the south zone, Cypress County is also reporting zero active cases.

There are only two active cases in Brooks.

The city of Airdrie is also reporting zero active cases at this time.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will update the province this afternoon at 3:30.

The province reported 49 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total active number of cases to 489.
