MHPS, organizers committed to peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstration
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police are committed to making sure the Black Lives Matter protest in Medicine Hat on Friday will be a peaceful demonstration.
A release from the Medicine Hat Police Service says they have met with the protest organizers and are confident their goals are the same — a peaceful demonstration intended to raise awareness about racial inequality and injustice.
Police say their role at the event will be to “ensure that fundamental rights and freedoms, that every Canadian has, are upheld including; freedom of conscience and religion; freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, freedom of peaceful assembly; and freedom of association.”
The protest is planned for June 5 at 4 p.m. at Medicine Hat City Hall and police say they expect citizens will participate in this event using the same respect and dignity for others that our community is known for.
