Tornado warning issued for Rocky View County, Wheatland County, 90 km/hr winds expected in Medicine Hat

Alberta Emergency Alert said in a Tweet that the Tornado Alert for Rocky View and Wheatland County has now ended. It has since been downgraded to a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and nickel sized hail.

BEISEKER AB- Residents in parts of Rocky View County and Wheatland County are being asked to take shelter.

Environment Canada issued a Tornado warning for Rocky View Co. near Irricana Beiseker and Kathyrn and Wheatland Co. near Rockyford and Rosebud.

Images on Social media posted by residents appear to show a funnel cloud in the sky.

In Medicine Hat and Cypress County, Environment Canada has issued a wind warning.

Westerly winds gusting to 90 km/h will continue this evening, the national weather service says.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk,” Environment Canada said.

The winds are expected to ease overnight.

Environment Canada is asking residents to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts. To report severe weather, the weather service says to send an email to ABstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm.
