MEDICINE HAT, AB – Another form of outdoor entertainment gets the green light today, with the reopening of playgrounds and skate parks in Medicine Hat and the town of Redcliff.

But the reopening of play structures on Friday, May 29 comes with an advisory from the city.

Signs are up at local playgrounds reminding residents to take and use hand sanitizer and stay home if you are sick.

Director of emergency management Merrick Brown said earlier this week the public must be responsible and that physical distancing guidelines remain.

Medicine Hat Police also remind motorists to obey the posted speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour in playground and school zones.

Constable Brent Bohrn says they’ll be out enforcing the speed limit.

They’ll also be making sure everyone is practicing social distancing.

Bohrn says most of their procedures so far have been warnings, educating people, and making sure they are aware of the public health rules.

“No tickets have been issued yet. We’ve done some checks on people who are supposed to be in self-quarantine and they’ve been abiding by their condition to self-quarantine and self isolate so that’s good to see as well.”

Bohrn says they’re also seeing heavy pedestrian and bike traffic on the paths and remind motorists to watch crosswalks where they intersect with roads.

He adds, “We want to make sure everybody is practicing social distancing and being as healthy as they can so just be smart when you are on the playgrounds and practice proper hygiene.”
