Alberta has fewer than 1,000 active cases of COVID-19 and the South Zone has fewer than 100.

The province has seen just 19 new cases over the past 24 hours for a total of 6,735. Of those, there are 970 active cases and 5,637 recovered ones. There are no additional deaths to report, leaving the total at 128.

The South Zone did not record any new cases. There remain 1,212 cases in the zone, 99 active and 1,105 recovered. The South Zone has reported eight deaths.

Brooks now has just 65 active cases and 1,018 recovered cases.

Lethbridge News Now reports the JBS meat plant in Brooks plans to return to two work shifts per day for the first time in a month.

Operations at the plant had been reduced to one daily shift of between 700 and 1,100 workers, after several employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The return to two shifts starts Thursday and won’t increase the number of employees who are in the plant at one time.

Medicine Hat’s numbers are unchanged since Tuesday’s update. There are five active cases and 30 recovered cases.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced last week that she would begin scaling back the frequency of her in-person updates. The chief medical officer of health did not give one today, but one is scheduled for Thursday.

On May 11, the province began putting a more detailed chart online for each zone.
