Alberta has seen another 58 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

The province now has a total of 6,515 cases, but the percentage of recovered cases continues to rise and active cases pushes down toward 1,000. There are 5,317 recovered cases and 1,073 active cases.

In Brooks there are 986 recovered cases and 82 active ones. There have been 1,075 confirmed cases there, including seven deaths.

Medicine Hat remains at 35 cases, 30 recovered and five active.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw said that in Stage 1 of the relaunch Albertans need to be mindful of continuing to minimize infection risk.

She said a template on the relaunch webpage will aid businesses in doing so.

“As we head into the long weekend, I know many of us are turning our thoughts to the outdoors. Alberta’s relaunch strategy recognizes the importance of the outdoors and recreation for Albertans’ sense of wellbeing,” the chief medical officer of health said. “With that in mind I am pleased to announce that effective today, outdoor gathering limits are being increased to a maximum of 50 people.”

Hinshaw said physical distancing of two metres must still be practiced by people from different households and everyone at the gathering follows proper hygiene recommendations. She discouraged the sharing of food and drink.

Indoor gatherings are still limited to fewer than 15 people.

Hinshaw also announced she will be decreasing the number of updates she provides beginning next week. Daily updates will be posted online.

In the South Zone there are 1,183 cases, an increase of nine from Thursday.

Across the province, there are 63 people cases currently in hospital, nine in the ICU.
