CCDA wants to get local businesses online

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City Centre Development Agency is warning downtown businesses that the COVID-19 pandemic may put them in a financial hole they won’t be able to get out of.

Even as the economy begins to open up, physical distancing guidelines remain in place and many shoppers will be nervous about going out in public.

The CCDA has partnered with local company Let’s Order in to help businesses get their products online.

“Especially when the pandemic hit we realized the necessity for downtown businesses to find some way to still make money and you know I would encourage all downtown businesses owners if you don’t like the idea of Let’s Order in to find some other way to get online,” said CCDA board chair Jeremy Silver. “Sitting and waiting for things to improve is the equivalent of doing nothing and I worry about the hole a lot of the downtown business owners are going to get into financially that they’re not going to be able to get themselves out of and so even a small amount of sales is something.”

Silver said it’s as easy as downloading the Let’s Order in app, tapping a button, taking a picture, punching in a price, hitting submit and, voila, the item is online for the public to view and purchase.

“It’s very user-friendly and we understand there’s a lot of downtown business owners that technology is very scary for. Getting online period is the most important thing and what we’ve done is try to streamline it with Let’s Order In to make it easier for people,” he adds.

The CCDA is covering the first month and any sign-up fees for downtown businesses. Silver said they just have to email the CCDA or sign up and send an email to Let’s Order in letting them know which downtown business they’re with

Businesses that aren’t downtown can get on the app, but aren’t eligible for the CCDA perks.

The app was originally created by Jared Bosch as a food delivery service, but has been tweaked to expand the offerings.

The app can be downloaded at letsorderin.ca.
