With campsites closed, Tourism Medicine Hat offers option
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Victoria Day long weekend has long been the traditional start of the camping season in Alberta – despite the often inclement weather. With campsites closed, Tourism Medicine Hat is offering an option.
The Camp at Home initiative from the local tourism bureau is encouraging Hatters to set up a tent in the backyard or even a pillow fort indoors to celebrate the kickoff of the camping season during a global pandemic.
“The beauty of the whole process is there is not cost, there is no registration and you can camp for as long as you want because it’s your house,” said Jace Anderson, executive director of Tourism Medicine Hat. “But what we would love folks to do is reach out to us on social media. You can download a camping pass and fill in the name of your campsite and give us some ideas of the sort of things you take when your camping.”
