COVID-19 : 96 new cases, one additional death

EDMONTON, AB- The Province of Alberta is reporting 96 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 3) bringing the total number of cases to 5766.

2713 cases have recovered.

One person has died over the past 24 hours. The total number of deaths attributed to the virus is now at 95. Five of those deaths are in the South Zone and four of the South Zone deaths are from Brooks. Details are scarce about the fifth reported death. CHAT NEWS has reached out to the province for more information.

The South Zone currently has 1,075 cases.

There is one new case identified in Medicine Hat, bringing the city’s total to 32 cases. Twelve are listed as active and 20 are recovered.

In Brooks which has seen cases skyrocket over the past two weeks, the city is reporting 19 new cases. There are now 989 cases in the city. 807 are active and 178 have recovered

The City of Lethbridge has 17 cases. Six active and 11 recovered.

In the County of Newell there are 11 cases, 10 active and one recovered

Cypress County has are eight cases. One active and seven recovered.

The Municipal District of Taber and the County of Forty Mile each have two cases both of which have recovered.

Elsewhere in the province:

-3,842 cases in the Calgary zone

-504 cases in the Edmonton zone

-221 cases in the North zone

-88 cases in the Central zone

-36 cases in zones yet to be confirmed

Ninety people are currently hospitalized for the virus with 19 admitted to ICU.

Testing for COVID-19 continues to ramp up, according to the province. There have been 152,123 people tested for COVID-19 and a total of 161,245 tests performed by the lab. In the last 24 hours, 3,728 tests have been completed.
