COVID-19: Hundreds tested in Medicine Hat, Brooks last week

MEDICINE HAT, AB.- Testing for the novel Coronavirus continues throughout the South Zone and new figures released by Alberta Health Services to CHAT NEWS Today show an average of 36 tests performed in Medicine Hat last week.

The testing is for symptomatic individuals who get referred through public health.

The following is a breakdown of the number of tests performed per day last week in the city.

Brooks:

Testing has ramped up in the city of Brooks as the number of COVID-19 cases reached into the triple digits.

The following is a breakdown of the number of tests performed on symptomatic individuals in Brooks last week.

The figures don’t take into account the efforts to test those not showing symptoms.

The City of Brooks in partnership with Newell County and AHS initiated a three day assessment centre for asymptomatic people on Monday April 27 to Wednesday April 29.

According to AHS, 3653 people were tested during the three-day period.

AHS told CHAT NEWS Today on Tuesday that there are no plans as of yet to reinstate the asymptomatic testing site in the city of Brooks.

Testing for those who have symptoms is ongoing in Brooks and throughout the province.

Last week over 300 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Brooks and six new cases were identified in Medicine Hat.
