Food Bank numbers levelled out but spike expected

MEDICINE HAT, AB – April was a busy month for the Medicine Hat Food Bank.

There was a greater need with the change in the economy due to COVID-19.

Food Bank Program Coordinator Melissa Mullis says they saw a lot more families they haven’t seen before.

But she says food bank numbers have levelled out compared to a few weeks ago.

“But we’re expecting a spike due to government funding ending and people crewing debt due to unpaid rent and unpaid utilities.”

Mullis says volunteers from Prairie Rose, SD-76, and Iron Horse Energy helped answer phones and build hampers.

She adds if you need help from the food bank, to give them a call and book an appointment.

To make a donation to the food bank you can visit their website.

Mullis thanks the community for coming together with generous donations and volunteers.
