Oil and gas sector seeks payroll relief plan from feds

There’s a plea for financial help from the oil and gas sector, which is asking the federal government to introduce a payroll relief plan.

An opinion piece published Monday in the Financial Post says it’s an open letter to Canadians from oil and gas workers.

The letter says, “We’re also asking the federal government to purchase our accounts receivable – at a discount. Doing this would give our companies instant cash flow.”

One CEO represented in the letter says this is their “SOS” call to Canadians.

The letter, signed by 14 CEOs, says getting the requested help from the government would give the oil and gas industry a fighting chance to survive while they wait for the construction of pipelines like Keystone XL and the Trans Mountain expansion.
