Food bank getting funds for student nutrition programs

Apr 2, 2020 | 4:27 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat and District Food Bank will receive provincial funding for nutrition programs to help vulnerable Kindergarten to Grade 12 students and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nine organizations around the province will share the $3 million in new funding announced Thursday. The local food bank will receive $300,000.

“Ensuring our students do not go hungry while in-person classes are cancelled is of the utmost importance,” says Education Minister Adriana LaGrange. “We are giving non-profits and school boards the funds and flexibility to find solutions to provide meals or food for students as they learn at home. I commend their efforts to meet students’ needs during this challenging time.”

On Wednesday TD Wealth issued a corporate challenge to the business community to support the food bank and residents.
