Crews to begin work on shrub, tree bed enhancements
MEDICINE HAT, AB – With spring here the city’s parks and recreation department is out to beautify the city.
Working at various locations in the city, crews will begin removing the above-ground portions of shrubs in tree beds. After the ground thaws a contractor will remove shrub roots and existing mulch, replacing it with topsoil and sod. Native coarse grass will be used on the back portions of tree beds in wilderness areas.
A contractor will undertake the work on behalf of the city.
A release from the city says the changes are aimed at reducing maintenance costs and controlling weed growth in mulch-covered beds. It will also increase public access to shaded areas for recreation and leisure.
