Canalta Centre’s virtual concert series

With concerts being cancelled for the foreseeable future, the Canalta Centre has found another way to connect local musicians with the community.

The Canalta Centre is looking to keep the music alive by hosting virtual concerts.

Local musicians are given the opportunity to perform live online, showcasing the talent we have in our city and surrounding areas.

“Medicine Hat has a very strong live music community.”

“Medicine hat has a very strong live music community, almost on any day of the week you can go somewhere that an artist is playing live. We have a huge pocket of talent in this town, where people just want to share their gifts. And I have spoken to many of them personally, in the process of getting this going they are all affected, they are all worried. This is a huge piece of their livelihood,” said Rachel Kruitbosch, communications officer with the Canalta Centre.

“Showcase the work of artists within our local community.”

“We know that the live music scene has obviously taken a hit, people cant gather at their favorite venue anymore, or see their favorite artists in person…so, with both those thoughts in mind we wanted to create a space, a virtual venue if you will, where we could showcase the work of artists within our local community and surrounding areas, where people could come and gather.”

“We have had a really great response, from local bands, singer songwriters, lots of people getting on board and wanting to be apart of the movement and help bring music back to Medicine Hat,” said Kruitbosch.

Last night’s first live artist was Dan Howard, and there is expected to be a new artist every night.

You can tune in at 8 p.m. this evening on the Canalta Centre’s Facebook or Instagram page to watch the next live performance.
