Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, announced 49 news cases in the province today, including a second confirmed case in Medicine Hat.

The total number of cases in the province 195. According to the geospatial map on the government’s website there are two new cases in the south zone. The other one announced is in Lethbridge.

Hinshaw said up to 11 of the total cases may be community transmitted.

Ten Albertans are now hospitalized, with five in the ICU. Three of those in the ICU have been admitted in the past 24 hours.

There have been no further deaths.

Hinshaw said Albertans are recovering from COVID-19.

“As of today, three individuals have been reported to us as recovered,” she said.

Hinshaw added another reason to celebrate is the quick training of medical students to enhance the contact tracing capacity.

“It is this contact tracing that is helping to contain the spread of this virus.”
