MEDICINE HAT, AB–Despite many restaurants and pubs around the city having to close their doors for the time being, it hasn’t stopped businesses from giving an outpouring of support towards the community.

According to the executive director of the Medicine Hat food bank, Celina Symmonds, there has been a high volume of interest from businesses throughout the city have that have recently closed and are looking to donate food that they won’t be using.

“Our community is amazing.”

“We have had restaurants, pubs, and bars, reaching out to us all week about how they can donate here and not have that food go to waste that they have in their fridges right now. Our community is amazing,” said Symmonds.

Produce and certain perishable items have been highly donated items, with the food bank saying that they need cash donations to source specific needs.

“We’re delivering around 95 hampers a day at this point. And we are delivering them to peoples homes, so it’s a complete shift of how we do business. “

Symmonds says that donations are always needed.

“We know that they are also suffering, we appreciate that they think of us in their hardest time.”
