Coronavirus: Hat businesses low on products

Mar 4, 2020 | 5:15 PM

Canadians around the country are being cautious amid fears of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

So far, there have been no confirmed cases in Alberta but that hasn’t stopped hatters from taking precautions.

” There won’t be any available for at least 10 days. “

Owner of Greg’s Pharmacy, Greg Bueckert, spoke about how difficult it has been to keep up with some of the demands for certain products.

“Hand sanitizer, we just got a note this morning that there is none available, and there won’t be any available for at least 10 days. This is the stuff made in Canada, so the stuff from overseas is non-existent at this point.”

Aside from hand sanitizer, face masks, and even toilet paper have been flying off the shelf.

According to TIME Magazine, sale of hand sanitizer in the U-S was up 73 per cent in February over the same time-period one year ago, which could be the reason why the price is skyrocketing on some on-line retailers.

As demand continues to greatly outweigh the supply, local businesses are not expecting the situation to change anytime soon.

” We only have a few cases in Canada and we are already having difficulties. “

Bueckert said. ” We only have a few cases in Canada, and we are already having difficulties. Unfortunately a lot of the stuff is coming out of China, and they are keeping it all or whatever they can produce. “

Alberta Health says that the risk to Albertans of contacting the Corona Virus is still considered low, and that they are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
