MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police have charged a Redcliff man with multiple counterfeit money offences following an investigation.

Austin Lane, 24, has been charged with possession of counterfeit currency, making counterfeit money, possession of material for counterfeiting, possession of credit card data, possession of identification documents and multiple counts of possession of stolen property.

The investigation was initiated after a series of counterfeit bills were passed at local businesses, a release from police states. Police issued a news release a week ago, warning businesses about the counterfeit bills circulating.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Broadway Avenue Southeast in Redcliff on Friday. Police seized several counterfeit American bills and other evidence of counterfeiting, according to the release. Police also located several pieces of stolen property, including credit cards and pieces of personal information.
